Find out who is the decision-maker with the power to hire and fire. Find out where that person eats, plays golf or has her nails painted (not quite, but you get the drift). Position yourself where you can be introduced to the people who can change your future. Don't tremble in your boots. The worst that can happen is to be turned down. You are already used to that - and there will always be tomorrow... Once you have figured out the type of position that could be vacant, then go and craft a unique version of your resume addressing each of the needs of the role and leveraging your past accomplishments in the light of what is to come.
